What BestPlaces Users Say about Mountain View

Mountain View, Arkansas is a small town with a population of just over 2,800 people. It is known for its stunning outdoor scenery and folk music scene, and has a cost of living that is slightly below the national average. It is also home to the Ozark Folk Center State Park and Blanchard Springs Caverns, making it a popular tourist destination. However, like any place, there are pros and cons to living in Mountain View. Let's take a look at what some users have to say about their experiences living in this particular place.

1) "I've lived in Mountain View for over 20 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. The community here is so welcoming and friendly, it feels like one big family. Plus, the natural beauty of the Ozarks is something you just can't find anywhere else." - Sarah123

2) "I moved to Mountain View for a slower pace of life and it definitely delivers on that aspect. However, job opportunities are limited and the cost of living is higher than I expected. It's a trade-off, but I enjoy the peacefulness of the town." - TomG87

3) "As someone who loves outdoor activities, Mountain View is a dream come true. I can go hiking, fishing, and camping all within a short distance from my home. It's like living in a postcard. But the downside is that there isn't much to do here in terms of entertainment or nightlife." - NatureLover23

4) "I've been living in Mountain View for a year now and I'm still in awe of the community's love for music. There's always a bluegrass jam session or a folk music concert happening. It's truly a unique and charming aspect of this town. The only downside is that the town can feel a bit isolated at times." - MusicMan89

Small Town Living - 9/28/2010
A very small town and everything to go along with it. While I value some of the small town characteristics, others I could do without. Mountain View is wonderful for raising families. The one thing that I would have to complain about is that when you move into Mountain View from "off", you are forever considered an outsider. One person questioned a local man about when she would be considered being from Mountain View, and was told "Not in your lifetime." Aside from that, the area is beautiful. The Ozark Mountains stretch for miles. Rivers and lakes close by. National Forest, complete with caves and natural springs, just miles away. In town are a few musical/revue type live shows, and music on the courthouse Read More

Mountain View - 3/16/2007
The Ozark wilderness is a beautiful and breathtaking area. In the summer the ridgetops resemble a rain forest, while in winter they are shrouded in fog and ice. Lightning storms in the spring can be relentness.

Mountain View is as close to the American frontier as most people will ever experience. Highways were only recently paved in the 1970's. The major north-south route, Arkansas 5, was paved in 1978. Party line telephones were common until around 1990. Almost everyone has modern things in their homes now, they just haven't had them for very long.

The southern Ozarks region has no diversity whatsover. The myth that everyone is related isn't exactly true, however they do tend to have similar backgrounds. People of the area actually go to great lengths of family research to avoid marrying a cousin, and it happens much more rarely than you would think.

The main activity of the area is fiddle music, which is a lot like Kentucky or Appalachian Read More

Literate beware! - 8/23/2006
Ahh...the city of mountain view...my parents moved there when us kids were just young teens snatching us away from our happy existance living several miles from the ocean. We thought we were going to hell...especially since all you ever hear about Arkansas on the east coast are jokes about inbreeding. After moving there we realized that there is a little truth in every joke-that's what makes them funny! And scary!! Do not move your children to mtn. view unless you want them to get pregnant as soon as possible. That's what me and my sisters (and everyone else we knew in high school) did! There was nothing else to do. No nothing for young people to do but try to figure out how to get out or get knocked up. Oh, I forgot, there's the Meth (bad drug)! For a small town, it is infested with meth...so a lot of people I went to school with are now in prison because of that. We mostly just smoked pot, there's tons of it there. On the upside...oh, wait, the pot was the up-side! Just Read More
